What to Pack: Game Drive

Game drives will be one of the most exciting things you do while on your trip to Africa. You will come face to face with wildlife you have only seen on TV. Even though you will be on a truck most of the time it is important to dress appropriately. Along with packing the right clothes, having a bag on deck with some extra items will be very helpful.

The “Carry On”

The most obvious and arguably most important item is a camera, this one explains itself. Along with a camera, binoculars are a must. The driver will not always be able to get super close to the animals so being able to see the action clearly from a distance will be very much appreciated. Some other useful items to bring include water, bug spray, SUNSCREEN, and a portable phone charger.

Summer Drive (October- April)

A good rule of thumb when dressing for a game drive is to keep your clothes neutral. Bright colors are not ideal because you are trying to blend in with the bush. In the summer a cotton tee shirt is best along with some comfortable shorts. Sunglasses, a hat, and possibly a thin scarf will be the best accessories for your outfits as the sun will be beating down. Shoes are simple, wear comfortable tennis shoes or boots that you do not mind getting dirty.

Winter Drive (May- September)

Winter game drives are a favorite due to the mild cool temperatures, but you will have to dress a little differently. Layers will be your best friend so bring a nice thin jacket or cardigan to go over a tee shirt. As for pants, jeans or cargos are best. Hats, scarves, and sunglasses are again very good to add to your outfit. Make sure to bring some nice outdoor boots that can get some dirt on them.
